We – the software innovations team of avodaq – are proud to present our first open source release within the rescoped project!
What is rescoped? We mainly work on applications for business processes and enterprise use cases, that often share common challenges, like how to visualize and manipulate data, login mechanisms and alike. The idea to build central libraries which we can use and leverage across all our projects came naturally to our minds. When we decide that certain features should be reusable, they need to be written in a certain way. And the requirements for our libraries and components need to be written in a certain way too. We "rescope" these requirements to help us scale our organization. The process to think this way helped us on our journey to deliver large projects with many web-based applications.
To go open source with meaningful parts of our solutions, helps us to show what we are working on, more transparently. rescoped components are MIT-licensed and suitable for leading and experienced engineers and beginners at the same time.
The first rescoped component: datagrid
The rescoped datagrid helps you and your team to build better table-based data sets in your Angular environment.
Before we started to work on the datagrid we discovered that in the Angular eco-system there are only a handful of data grid/data table alternatives. Some of them are open source, some are no longer in development or maintained, others are subscription-based for advanced features or commercial use.
With the rescoped datagrid, you can use all features from the beginning and benefit from our ongoing efforts. We (as avodaq) decided not to charge for advanced features or commercial use. The rescoped datagrid is a relevant part of our business applications. And if you want to build a data grid, that really meets your needs, you can contribute here. The datagrid right now is an early and experimental release, but you can see what it is already capable of, with our skygrid demo app. Later this year we will publish a roadmap of the datagrid and other rescoped components as well. A quick history about the datagrid
When Serkan joined our organization, he brought the open source idea to avodaq. During many meetings and project weeks the benefits of open source parts of our work became clearer. With the backing of our CEO Andreas we got the necessary resources and the commitment to become an open source contributor.
The first rescoped release is a front-end library, but we also plan to release back-end focused solutions in the future. Other components and libraries that we will publish inside the rescoped project will be agnostic. So, it is possible to use future parts of rescoped with a different JS-based framework, too!
